Raspberry Coke - Teh Review

Well the much anticipated Raspberry Coke was released yesterday, and I finally got around to purchasing a bottle of it this morning. After all the hype generated by Trademe on this I have been eagerly waiting for the release. I have sampled both though not much of the diet flavour, which tastes foul at first but has a relatively nice aftertaste when compared with normal diet coke.

The regular Raspberry Coke is rather pleasant. It is nowhere near as sweet as I expected, like vanilla coke is. The raspberry flavour is quite subtle, as if a small shot of raspberry cordial has been added (as is often done in Auckland cafes), unlike the now dead Cherry Coke which really tasted nothing like Coke or Cherries (despite this it was delicious, COKE YOU FARKERS BRING IT BACK NOW!!!). I personally can't stand raspberry soft drinks so this was all a nice surprise for me. I also imagine that this Raspberry Coke would go excellently with a shot of Raspberry Absolut Vodka, for a bit of extra Raspberriness.

I would recommend that anyone who is a fan of coke/vanilla coke/cherry coke give it a go. I also think it could be useful for covering up nasty flavours, making it a drink spiker's dream come true.

I received an interesting phishing type spam email this weekend, it was possibly the only spam email I have ever actually enjoyed receiving. I eagerly clicked on the enclosed link just dying to enter my internet banking login details, but got a damned 404-type message. The other weird thing about it, is that it appears to be pointing to a real bank's website, though since I'm not from the USA I really have no idea. Also, the one liner that was underneath the hyperlinked gif is just bizzare. The whole scam appears to have no purpose so fark knows what it's supposed to mean. Anyway, here it is for the enjoyment of everyone...

Rainy Mankini Day

The sh1t weather Auckland is experiencing today has killed any plans I had for getting out of the house, so I am still stuck here floating between the PC, Gamecube & Nintendo DS. Thanks to FGL I have re-implemented the blogger comments and nuked the Haloscan comments. I had planned to wander over to the nearest PC supplies shop to purchase a new crossover cable, to connect my Gamecube up to the PC in the hope of succeeding with the elusive PSO-BBA trick. This allows the lucky broadband adapter owner to "stream" backed up games from the PC to the Gamecube, and although it seems time consuming, it's a lot cheaper (well to me anyway) than modifying the Gamecube to play games backed up to mini DVD-R discs. Looks like it will have to wait til later, I suppose in the meantime I always have Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

On the topic of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, I placed an order for this promo tee via my favourite canadian online gaming store, and was horrified to be told that they only had size L, not XL as previously advertised. They cancelled my order, but after some consideration I ordered the L size anyway, since I have it on good authority that american sizing tends to be slightly larger than ours. Even if it doesn't fit, I'm sure it will do well on trademe...

I have followed FGL's recommendation that I add Haloscan's trackback to the blog. Unfortunately I now need to get the blogger commenting system back and remove the Haloscan commenting system as it pisses me off, and also since all the old blogger comments are now hidden. I'm sure I'll be able to get this fixed today. I also noticed that FGL has implemented the Technorati tagging system, and I have decided to do the same. I'm interested to see how it works out. I'll be testing it after this post.

Free text weekends are still in full force. I have received far too much spam, and have been giving it back tenfold. I'll be interested to see if Vodafone NZ actually bother to enforce the whole "If you excessively use the Vodafone Free TXT weekends, it may result in the suspension of services" though I doubt I have yet pushed the limit of it, but I bet someone somewhere already has... Since I have been off work sick all week, I have had a chance to remember why being unemployed was soooo much fun - Daytime television shows! :o/ I was fortunate enough to relive my childhood this afternoon with a rousing episode of the Care Bears. I expected it to be some half baked remake, but was surprised to see it was the original 80s show in all its' glory! The Care Bears (shitty) Movie was the first movie I can remember seeing at the cinema. I had forgotten how tacky and poorly animated (even by 80s standards) that piece of shit excuse for a cartoon is. And WTF is up with them shooting shit out of those symbols on their stomachs... I think even a retarded dwarf fetishist who collects ####=RARE### shoes, such as Gawy, could have managed slightly better than that crap. Well okay maybe he couldn't, but most other 80s cartoons that were made to market sh!tty made-in-china childrens toys managed better than that. The original Masters of the Universe series (not the sort of crappy remake) was great, as was Transformers (they managed a good remake of the series, shame the toys now completely suck) and Jem & The Holograms ;o)

Getting back to the now twice mentioned Amish Calendar competition between myself and Flying Green Leprachaun, it appears I have jumped into the lead somehow. A random check on google today showed me as ranking 9th, and the Flying Green one as being 12th, so we have pretty much swapped positions. Since I am becoming so familiar with the Amish (and their abuse) I was interested to find out why the chose not to use electricity, and was not surprised at the explanation...

In related events I also located this fine example of reality television gone wrong. Amish In The City doesn't seem right - why would any self respecting Amish person want to embrace the evils and temptations of LA?!? Americans freak me out sometimes. Though not as much as Gawy...

The previously mentioned Amish Calendar competition is now in full swing, both FGL and myself are now appearing in the top twenty google pages using the search term "Amish Calendar" despite him not realising it. Although he currently leads the Amish Calendar race at position 8, I am not far behind at position 12.

Whilst on the Amish quest I also discovered this intriguing website which is well worth a look :D

Oldboy

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Rialto Cinema and saw a crazy Korean movie called Oldboy, which featured some great torture scenes as well as an insight into what it would be like to be locked up in a room for 15 years without knowing why. It was somewhat Quentin Tarantino-esque, the general mood of the movie as well as the bizzare twists reminded me a lot of him. I was relatively impressed by the fight scenes, and nicely detailed torture scenes, this kind of thing seems far more common in asian cinema than american. The movie ended being a "Tale of Vengeance" and I later discovered that director Chanwook Park is making a Vengeance Trilogy of sorts, and this was the second installment. The first was called Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, and also appears to be rather twisted and gory. The next one is apparently filming at the moment. I've not seen any korean films before, I normally stick to Japanese movies, since I'm not a huge fan of reading subtitles. But after seeing this I think I will try and see more :D It was certainly a disturbing experience.

"Used Cigarette Butt"

I forgot to post an update on everyone's favourite cigarette butt earlier, but the auction finally closed yesterday after an insane amount of questions, and an equally insane 139,627 page hits. The final bid was a completely ridiculous $7,475, which this guy hopefully has. I will be keeping an eye on the feedback to see if the trade is actually completed.

Slightly off topic, however Gawy officially sucks for making me get out of bed on time this morning (5:38am) when it was goddamn fucking cold. I don't know how cold it was, but it's Gawy's fault in any case. Also amusing is that Flying Green Leprachaun (aka Mr I Get Up @ 10am) was also sucked into Gawy's evil trap and got up 4 hours earlier than usual.
